Why crackers belong to Birthdays
The audience is small children and elders, close together, so most of the list is out and the choice is easy.
What to buy
Stick to the quiet end of the list: sparklers, colour smoke, butterflies and small chakkars. Leave out anything loud and anything that leaves the ground.

Birthdays questions
Which crackers suit a small child's birthday?
Sparklers held with an adult's hand over the child's, colour smoke and butterflies. Keep a bucket of water at hand, and let one adult do all the lighting.
Can we light them in an apartment compound?
Quiet ground items, if the association allows it and nothing hangs overhead. Nothing that leaves the ground.
Is there a minimum for one evening?
5,000 rupees, which is more than a party uses. Keep the rest sealed and dry for Vishu.
